Our sustainability journey...

Since 1993 our vision as a responsible and sustainable business is to positively impact our environment, our people, and the next generation. In other words:

“By producing organic products, to have a positive impact on the lives of our customers, our communities, and our team. To be sustainable and care about the people and the land.”

To ensure we are acting on this, we have developed a sustainability strategy that aligns with our vision and with an important objective in mind, to become a carbon negative business. Back in 1998, Biofeed founder Greg Crowe showed his forward-thinking vision and the company won the Southland Regional Environmental Award in its category. An award that is in part sponsored by the New Zealand Department of Conversation and Carter Holt Harvey Ltd. In addition and thanks to Greg, Biofeed has been certified as “Inputs for Organics” by BioGro since 1993.

We teamed up with South Island businesses that also have a commitment towards the environment, our communities, and our land. We highlighted some of their initiatives:

- MainFreight: they are working on moving more freight by rail as trains emit 4.6 times less CO2 than trucks. Recycle greywater for truck washing. Solar power generation on different sites.
PackTech: bottles made from recycled plastic, and they can still be recycled. 100% NZ made. All recycled material used in their products is sourced from the New Zealand economy.
- Print Central: They choose to work with sustainable forest materials and soya inks, and they dispose of waste products responsibly.
- Opal: They maintain a range of third-party certifications and memberships as part of their commitment to operating responsibly. They hold Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certification and PEFC™ certification through Responsible Wood®. Each of these certification systems support responsible forestry practices and ensures transparency and traceability in the fibre supply chain.

At our plant in Winton, our initiatives are:

- Reuse suppliers packaging for our orders where possible, reducing our waste.
- Rain catchment system so rainwater is used to produce Biofeed. We can harvest over 400,000 liters per year.
-  The layout in our plant benefits of gravity instead of electricity during the bottling process, reducing our power consumption.

Some of our plans over the next years is to install solar panels to be completely off the grid, keep planting trees and bee friendly plants in our property to get the best of the our land.

A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people.
